The Tomás Rivera Center, a research center associated with California State University, completes the first needs assessment commissioned by CSU: "The 21st Campus for the 21st Century."

The study, completed in February, shows evidence of local need for a four-year university in the Monterey Bay area, and well as interest in the local community. The study shows that, of the students polled at four community colleges in the region, 69 percent would choose to attend CSUMB.

A number of planning groups are formed to help determine and implement the next phases of action.
