The Western Association of Schools and Colleges (WASC) team visits CSUMB. The accreditation team calls for CSUMB to further define "what CSUMB graduates look like." A recent survey of CSUMB alumni indicates that CSUMB is beginning to produce graduates whose skills, knowledge, and abilities align distinctively with the university's Vision and with major learning outcomes. In the most basic sense, a university is what it graduates.

President Smith says: "As the numbers of graduates grow, they define the institutional character through their lives and their contributions to their communities."
