CSUMB Presidential Transition

The Third Annual César Chavez Day of Service and Learning, an official holiday in five states and dozens of cities and counties throughout the nation, is recognized at CSUMB on March 31-Chavez's birthday. Nationwide, thousands of students, parents, teachers, business leaders, and community members join together to commemorate Chavez by participating in beautification projects, programs to harvest fields of excess crops, park clean-up projects, and community health fairs.

César Chavez Day was established in 2001 to celebrate the life of the civil rights and farm labor leader, and to inspire current and future generations to carry on his dream for a better world. To honor César Chavez, a commemorative U.S. postage stamp is issued on April 23, the 10th anniversary of his passing.
