Among campus construction projects, the cornerstone of the revised Master Plan and future campus development will be a new $55 million library, funded through state bonds and private donations. The Science/Academic Center will also open on schedule in August, 2003. Additionally, using Carmel stone donated by the Eastwood family, CSUMB plans to build campus gateways that clearly mark the campus' two front doors-open to the Salinas Valley and Marina in one direction, and Seaside and the Monterey Peninsula in the other.

This fall, Residence Hall 211 is set to open on the main quad for freshman students. By fall 2004, CSUMB's first new student housing project will be constructed; it will include three buildings with approximately 732 beds in suites for sophomores, and apartments for single upper-division students. Also in fall 2004, the new Visitors Center will convert $3.5 million in federal money into space for visitor services and administrative offices on the quad site of Third Street.
