Dr. Fernando Torres-Gil, Associate Dean for Academic Affairs at the School of Public Policy and Social Research at UCLA, joins CSUMB and the Panetta Institute for September as a Visiting Scholar. Torres-Gil participates in several academic programs and forums, including CSUMB campus lectures and the Panetta Institute's Congressional Internship Program.

In early September, Torres-Gil gives a public lecture on campus, entitled "The New Aging: Demographic Imperatives for a Diverse America." His talk explores how the aging of baby boomers and the growing diversity of California's population is causing social changes, and what this means for our social, cultural, and political institutions.

Dr. Torres-Gil was previously Professor of Gerontology and Public Administration at the University of Southern California. He is the author of four books and 70 articles on aging-related topics. Torres-Gil was elected a Fellow of the Gerontological Society of America (1985) and of the National Academy of Public Administration. He has also served as President of the American Society on Aging (1995), and is the Director of UCLA's Center for Policy on Aging.
