Of the 1,589 students who have graduated from CSUMB to date, approximately 97% did so with undergraduate degrees (B.A. or B.S.), and nearly 61% of all graduates are women.

In line with the university's Vision to be a multicultural community, four percent of the 3,551 students currently enrolled in the September 2002-2003 academic year are African-American, another one percent is Native-American, nearly four percent are Asian-American, another 2.2% are Pacific Islanders, approximately 46% are white, 3.4% declared that they are "other," 26% are Latino/Hispanic/Mexican-American, and nearly 14% declined to state. Where these students live: 56.7% live in on-campus housing (25.9% live in campus apartments, 30.8% in Residence Halls) and 43.3% live in other housing.

As for faculty, administration, and staff, as of fall 2002 CSUMB employs 334 faculty and 412 administrators and staff. Of the 128 full-time faculty members, 43% are tenured, another 33.6% are tenured-track faculty, and another 23% are lecturers.
